Barb's Story
My name is Barbara Rankin and I am a Realtor and Broker Owner of Cornerstone Real Estate Rocky Mountains. I have been in real estate in Summit County since December of 2005, and have personally assisted over 200 clients with the successful purchase or sale of their home in Summit County. I am also one of the few USAFA graduate Realtors in the area, and I am a Certified Negotiation Expert, and a Certified Luxury Home Marketing Specialist.
My husband, Todd, and I decided to live in Summit County because we can't imagine a better place to be. Between us we've lived in over ten states and visited all fifty, lived in three countries and visited over 25, and Summit County is where we want to call home.
I grew up with a father enlisted in the Air Force, so I lived in many places and got the travel and outdoor bug early. I, too, joined the military when I left home, and graduated with a B.S. in Legal Studies from the Air Force Academy in 1996. I spent the next 6 years as a Financial Officer stationed in Dayton, Ohio (where I earned my Masters degree in Business Administration at Ohio State University) and Tokyo, Japan (where I mastered chopsticks).
We moved from Tokyo to Seattle, where I spent two and a half years selling medical equipment during the day and traveling, climbing, mountain biking, and kayaking at every opportunity. After having planned and saved for over four years, we left Seattle at the end of 2004 to travel the world. We spent 9 months traveling and biking, and 2 months working at wineries in Walla Walla, Washington for the grape harvest. Our travels gave us amazing experiences, and resulted in a lot of soul searching about what we want out of life. After spending years commuting to the mountains in our free time we decided to move to the mountains permanently. We spent quite a bit of time trying to decide on the perfect place to settle down, and we couldn't be happier since we chose to put roots down here in Summit County. We love everything that this area has to offer, and are excited to share our mountain playground with others.
In the military I learned honesty, integrity, leadership, and attention to detail. In medical sales I learned how much I love taking care of the needs of my customers. In all my outdoor and travel experience I learned that I enjoy sharing and teaching just as much as doing things on my own. I chose to do real estate because it combines all my education, experience, skills, and passion into a job where I can truly use them to the benefit of others. My goal is to help my clients achieve their real estate goals, while enabling them to relax, enjoy the mountains, and let me take care of the details. By being responsive, attentive, and knowledgeable, I hope that each of my customers will feel like they are my only one. We choose to own our own real estate company in order to be able to provide the highest level of customer service possible.
